A United Kingdom-based dark money non-profit group called the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) is the subject of a new lawsuit filed by Twitter.
Twitter’s parent company X has decided to sue the CCDH, which is run by a far-left British Labour Party operative named Imran Ahmed, following the drop of a Twitter Files exposé called “The Disinformation Chronicle” revealing that pre-Elon Musk Twitter employees took action against numerous conservative accounts highlighted by the CCDH in a report.
The CCDH hand-selected 12 accounts that it claims produce the vast majority of anti-vaccine “disinformation” on social media. One of the accounts is run by Dr. Joseph Mercola, whose Mercola Market was recently axed from holding a bank account at JPMorgan Chase.
While Twitter accepted the CCDH report as valid and responded accordingly, Facebook patently rejected it, stating that “[t]here isn’t any evidence to support this claim.”
“The report upon which the faulty narrative is based analyzed only a narrow set of 483 pieces of content over six weeks from only 30 groups, some of which are as small as 2,500 users,” Facebook said about the CCDH report.
“They are in no way representative of the hundreds of millions of posts that people have shared about COVID-19 vaccines in the past months on Facebook. Further, there is no explanation for how the organization behind the report identified the content they describe as ‘anti-vax’ or how they chose the 30 groups they included in their analysis. There is no justification for their claim that their data constitute a ‘representative sample’ of the content shared across our apps.”

To that we say: great job, Facebook. And we also say: shame on Twitter for taking the CCDH report and running with it, targeting numerous accounts for spreading “anti-vax disinformation.”
After Musk took over Twitter, the company’s lawyers wrote a letter on July 20 to the CCDH and its CEO accusing the organization of targeting Twitter with numerous unfounded accusations in an attempt to harm the company financially.
Cited in the letter is a June CCDH report entitled “Twitter Fails To Act On 99% Of Twitter Blue Accounts Tweeting Hate,” which X says is “false, misleading or both.”
“It has come to our attention that you and your organization, the Center for Countering Digital Hate … have made a series of troubling and baseless claims that appear calculated to harm Twitter generally, and its digital advertising business specifically,” the letter reads.
“CCDH regularly posts articles making inflammatory, outrageous, and false or misleading assertions about Twitter and its operations, which CCDH holds out to the general public as supported by ‘research.'”
According to X, the CCDH is also funded by several competitors of Twitter, a claim that the CCDH denies. Ahmed was so upset by the claim that he actually took to Twitter to complain about it, writing:
“Threatening independent watchdogs that inform the public about wrongdoing is the kind of thing tyrants do.”
Thacker responded to this tweet by asking why Ahmed is even in America and “[w]ho funds him?”
“Good question,” Musk himself then personally responded. “This appears to be foreign government interference … Can’t wait to get their donors under deposition!”
The CCDH reportedly “sprang out of nowhere in late 2017 or early 2018” around the time Donald Trump was getting settled into the White House. At the time, Ahmed was leaving a job as a political advisor to members of the British Labour Party.
